The Miami Valley Career Technology Center (MVCTC) welcomed United States Senator Jon Husted on Friday, November 14, for a firsthand look at the powerful impact of career-technical education across the Miami Valley.

During his visit, Senator Husted met with MVCTC Superintendent Dr. Nick Weldy; Maggie Hess, Executive Director of the Ohio Association of Career Technical Superintendents; and Liz Jensen, MVCTC Satellite Supervisor and current Ohio ACTE President.

Senator Husted then toured several MVCTC programs beginning with Drones & GIS Technologies, where instructor Amy Sugden and senior Ayden Ratcliffe of Miamisburg demonstrated how students use unmanned aircraft and geospatial tools to solve real-world problems.

The tour continued in Welding, led by instructor Lee Nelson, where senior Chance Mowen of Preble Shawnee shared his hands-on technical training experience and future career plans.

In Pre-Nursing, Senator Husted spoke with instructor Brittany Schnelle, School-to-Work Coordinator Emily Powers, and seniors Grace Herzog of Troy and Kelsey Johnson of New Lebanon. Students discussed their clinical experiences, industry certifications, and their readiness to enter Ohio’s healthcare workforce.

MVCTC extends its appreciation to Senator Husted for taking the time to engage with staff and students and for his ongoing support of career-technical education. His visit highlighted the critical role MVCTC plays in preparing the next generation of skilled professionals for Ohio’s growing industries.
