MVCTC Alumnus Leads Award-Winning Computer Networking & Cybersecurity Program to BPA Regional Success

In celebration of Career Technical Education (CTE) Month, Miami Valley Career Technology Center (MVCTC) is spotlighting its Computer Networking & Cybersecurity program, taught by MVCTC alumnus Mr. Dylan Kemp, where students are gaining the skills to secure networks, defend against cyber threats, and build the digital infrastructure that modern life relies on.

This spotlight comes as MVCTC students earned major recognition at the Business Professionals of America (BPA) Regional Awards Ceremony, bringing home top placements across multiple IT and cybersecurity events, including a standout sweep in Network Administration using Cisco.

BPA Regional Results: A Strong Showing Across IT Events

Students earned placements in:

Network Administration using Cisco (SWEEP):

  • Dylan Lampley  (Northmont) 1st – advancing to State
  • Ben Delk (Arcanum-Butler) 2nd – advancing to State
  • Malik Sene (Northridge) 3rd – advancing to State
  • Jakob Alexander (Brookville) - 4th
  • Nathan Wilson (Carlisle) 5th
  • Myles Capps (Northmont) 6th

Device Configuration & Troubleshooting:

  • Carlos Hill (Huber Heights) 1st – advancing to State
  • Amaar Mehmood (Tipp City) 2nd – advancing to State

Python Programming:

  • Devan Vaughn (Vandalia-Butler) 2nd – advancing to State

Computer Network Technology:

  • Cade Matthews (Northmont) 2nd – advancing to State

Linux Operating Systems Fundamentals:

  • Keagen Mauller (Miamisburg) 4th

Information Technology Concepts:

  • Devan Vaughn (Vandalia-Butler) 2nd
  • Michael Larew (Preble-Shawnee) 4th
  • Ben Delk (Arcanum-Butler) 5th

Computer Programming Concepts:

  • Devan Vaughn (Vandalia-Butler) 2nd

Several students will advance to the BPA State Leadership Conference in February, continuing MVCTC’s strong legacy of BPA excellence in computer networking and technology events.

Building Skills for High-Demand Careers

MVCTC’s Computer Networking & Cybersecurity program equips students with the real-world skills needed to build, secure, and maintain networks while learning modern cybersecurity defense strategies. Students train in areas such as network design, wireless networking, operating systems, digital forensics, disaster recovery, threat management, and more.

The program also prepares students for industry-recognized certifications and training, including:

  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
  • Cisco CyberOps Associate training
  • Cisco Certified Technician (CCT) training
  • Cisco Certified Support Technician (CCST) Networking & Cybersecurity

With work-based learning opportunities through internships and advanced placement, plus college credit options through Edison State Community College, Hocking College, and Sinclair College, students graduate ready for careers in networking and cybersecurity or to continue their education with a head start.

Career pathways include Network Technician, Network Administrator, Network Security Technician, Ethical Hacker, Computer Forensics Analyst, IT Security Consultant, and more.
